Pillars of the Earth Illustration

By February 3, 2011 2 Comments

So I’m reading the 6000 page Ken Follett’s Pillars of the Earth. It’s a really, really good book and I’m about 2/3 through.  I know they’ve make a TV series etc etc (which I close my eyes to) but for me, reading fiction (a rarity – though a growing interest), grants me the opporunty to stretch my visual storytelling database.  I thought I’d share a sketch I’m working on, it’s a love-hate kind of thing me and this piece, it’s coming along:

I’m a pretty big fan of the cloud’s treatment, the random skeletal type connections, the warm/cool tones, flowing composition and some random structure smack dab in the middle…. hmphm

cool sketch. I’m amazed at it’s similarity to the art in the lead credits for the tv series which is some of my favorite animation ever. Done by a Polish artist. Be interesting to see some more of your visualizations. By the way, the same Poilish guy did the lead credit animation for Robin Hood which isn’t surprizing since Ridley Scott directed one and produced the other

Thank you Jamie! I’ll have to take a look – in all seriousness, reading the book has forced me to close my eyes to the whole treatment the series has received – I want to work this more then compare the world in mind!
